Getting back to the basics, the cleaning edition.
It is a New year which is always an opportunity to create new rhythms and evaluate old ones. I try not to think of this as New Year resolutions but as a natural time of year to evaluate and implement new things to get my life functioning better. For me this happens three times a year, the change of the calendar year, the start of summer and when kids go back to school in the fall. These natural changes in our scedule force me to evalauate current rythyms and implement new ones. And this January I feel my soul crying out to get back to the basics! Sometimes we overthink and miss the simple solutions that can bring change to our life.
A few areas I want to see change or see myself continue to flourish are; spending consistent time with Jesus, sharing Jesus with others, eating better by cooking more, reading more books, having a consistent writing day and evening, cutting social media and internet time, finding a better resting rhythm, exercising in such a way which encourages my kids and husband to join me, spending more quality time with my people, more regular dates with my man, decluttering my home and for our topic for today cleaning my home more regularly!
To get back to the basics of cleaning, it's about finding a rhythm in my schedule, staying more on top of the mess, getting the kids involved and having simple, healthy solutions I can stick with all year — even when things get chaotic.
A few things we did right last semester that worked:
1. Having a set cleaning day. While the kids are at school I do some of the work(like cleaning the floors) but when they get home they know it is go time. They have to pick up their rooms and the playroom, and then have a series of chores divided up based on ages, like cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming and dusting.
2. Having daily chores and responsibilities for us all. This includes things like, taking the trash and recycle out, sweeping, loading and unloading dishes and putting away laundry daily.
3. Using extra chores for disciplining the kids. Most of my kids are past the "time out" stage, so I make them clean, this includes jobs like cleaning the van out, vacuuming the stairs with the little vaccuming and matching socks.
4. Becoming a Grove Collaborative member. Grove simplifies tasks like shopping for home and personal care products. Instead of making an extra stop at the store, I can come home to all your favorite healthy, affordable products sitting on your doorstep. I started ordering two months ago when they were running the holiday new members deal and I have loved my shipments so much I have decided to become an influencer for the company!
As an influencer I get to offer my readers lots of free products!!!! The January new members bundle is a perfect starter kit!
Now is a great time to give Grove a try, because they’re offering a free New Year, New You Set with your first order of $20 http://influencer-tracking.grove.co/SF1qg to help you create your own healthy home care routine:
Free Mrs. Meyer’s hand soap

If you’re already a customer, you’ll get a free set of Grove walnut scrubber sponges, which are so pretty you won’t mind leaving them out by the sink.
Switching to beautiful home care products has been a real game-changer for me. Because receiving my monthly box of products is a great motivation to get going and to stick to my cleaning routine. And dishes don't feel less like a chore with a stylish sponge and lovely smelling dish soap.
I can’t say enough good things about Mrs. Meyer’s soaps and lotions(I used them before I started with Grove only thing was I paid more! Target and Amazon are both more expensive.) They were some of the first natural products I started using, and they’re still a staple in my kitchen and bathrooms. All the products are non-toxic and made with plant-derived ingredients, so I can feel good using them around my family. And guys they are the only soap I have found that gets rid of the stink after changing a diaper!! I even washed my new puppy with it!
In addition to the free New You set, here are the top 10 products I’d order from Grove if you’re looking to create your own healthy cleaning routine:
Grove Collaborative glass spray bottle with silicone sleeve (I clean most of my home with vinegar, but you could also fill it with...)
Grove Collaborative cleaning concentrates (such great smells)
Grove Collaborative wool dryer balls — these are genius! (Becuase fabric softener is awful for you!)
Grove Collaborative kitchen towel (they are all so pretty)
Bubble Up Dish Brush Set (I love mine, I use it daily and helps me not waste dish soap)
Cleaning Gloves (my hands have been so dry this winter, this is a lifesaver)
Dust Whisperer Filament Duster (Because I hate to dust at least this makes it easier)
Grove Collaborative microfiber all-purpose cloth(I LOVE microfiber picks up dirt like nothing else!)
Soy Candle (Becuase we need candles in the darkness of winter!)
Crystal Clear Glassware Cleaner (Becuase I have to clean the wine glasses from the long winter days, wink, wink...but really this works great for cleaning glasses that can't go in the dishwasher especially.)
Once you submit your Grove order, you’ll also be signed up for the free 60 day VIP trial. For 60 days, save even more with free shipping, free gifts, price matching, exclusive sales and personal service. My VIP membership has paid for itself in shipping alone!
